Developing Self Confidence

Self Confidence -
Your Life Purpose

Self-Esteem Issues-Problems with self esteem develop in early childhood and have to do with feelings of worth and capabilities to perform.  Low self esteem often leads to fears of poor performance, fears of failure, fears of rejection, feelings of worthlessness.  Low self esteem is basically the opposite of self
confidence.  In order to increase self esteem one has to be able to successfully accomplish tasks and change the negative cognitive self talk that perpetuates esteem problems.  Do you relate to the following?

  • Do you fear to fail or make mistakes?
  • Do you compare yourself with others?
  • Do you doubt your strengths and abilities?
  • Do you see yourself being pushed around, bullied, or inferior than others?
  • Do you feel guilty, nervous, and angry?
  • Do you know yourself worth?

Self Confidence: Self confidence is a positive belief in one self; the belief that you can accomplish most things given the opportunity, skill and knowledge.  This is a desirable trait which all of us would like to have and would work to gain.  Many do not have self-confidence because their ability to see themselves in a positive manner has been stripped from them at some time earlier in life.  When one loses self-confidence they often develop a fear of poor performance, fear of failure, fear of loss, and fear of rejection just to name a few.  In order to build self confidence those fears have to be dealt with along with correcting negative cognitive self statements.

Negative thinking- Stems from years of wrong thinking due to negative comments and misbelief’s that you acquired and learned from your past, which, now you believe describes who you are and your abilities.  Our actions are a direct result of our thoughts.  If we have a negative mind, we will have a
negative life.  In Proverbs 23:7- For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.   Our thoughts are powerful and according to scripture they have a creative ability.  If our thoughts are going to affect what we become, then it should be a priority that we change our mindset and think positive thoughts.  Philippians 4:8-9, says: Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized. Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies”.

We must take responsibility for our mind and our actions… as long as we keep making excuses and blaming others, our environment, and our circumstances, we will never be truly free ad emotionally
healthy.

You cannot have a positive life with a negative mindset.

2 Corinthians 10:5 teaches us to take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ…  Make sure your thoughts are lining up with the Word of God; otherwise, they are lies from the enemy… Replace those lies with the Truth and Promises of God.
